Dillon Baird Takes 1st Place at National Speech and Debate Championship

San Antonio, TX - Middle school student Dillon Baird has won first place in the category of public forum debate at the Speech and Debate National Championship, held in San Antonio, TX.

Baird, a seventh grader at Desert Springs Middle School, competed against students from across the country in the public forum debate category. He won first place after delivering a series of compelling and well-argued speeches on a range of topics, including the role of government in healthcare, the ethics of genetically-modified foods, and the impact of technology on society.

“I’m thrilled to have won first place at the national championship,” said Baird. “Competing against such talented and articulate students was a great learning experience, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to showcase my skills and knowledge in front of such a large audience.”

Baird has been involved in speech and debate since his sixth grade year of middle school, and has consistently placed in the top ranks of local, regional, and state competitions. His first place finish at the national championship is the culmination of years of hard work and dedication to the art of public speaking and argumentation.

“Dillon is a truly exceptional young man,” said Polk, Baird’s speech and debate coach. “He has a natural talent for public speaking and debate, and his passion for these activities is truly inspiring. We are all very proud of him for this great accomplishment.”

Baird will continue to compete in speech and debate competitions throughout his middle school and high school years, and is already looking forward to next year’s national championship.
